Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church History
The Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church was organized in the year of 1887. In June of 1887, a few of God's chosen men assembled themselves prayerfully and organized the original church. These founders included T. Moore, E. H. Hood, M. Higgs, B.C. Coleman, J. T. Biggs, C. H. Scurry, and L. A. Woods. In 1938, the church moved from its original location in Downtown Marion, AR (Highway 64/Military Rd) down the street to its present location in Sunset, AR.
In this building, we have had Sunday school, Sunday morning worship services, vacation Bible school, and Bible study, all of which are important for Christian spiritual training and development. Rising Sun has opened its doors to social movements encouraging equity for all, local school graduations, reunions, Kids for the Future, and Phelix kindergarten.
In this building, we have served the Lord's Supper and sang spiritual hymns such as "Do Lord Remember Me," "He Heard My Cry and Pitied My Every Groan," "Amazing Grace," and "How I Got Over." This building has had many men and women go down on their knees to pray for loved ones, neighbors, sick and shut-in, the nation, and those who didn't even know that somebody prayed for them. Rising Sun is 139 years old and counting. May God continue to bless Rising Sun M.B. Church.
